ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA– 50% in Aggregate and 55% in Subject in the previous Qualifying Examination


ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED BY THE DEPARTMENT– Power Point Presentations are made by the faculty members and visualizers are also used. Seminars are conducted on a regular basis and the Department has successfully conducted UGC sponsored state level seminars. The Department celebrates notable events including “BOSONTO UTSAB”, “RABINDRA JAYANTI”, and “SARADOTSAB”. One Departmental Magazine is published annually. In addition to this one Wall Magazine- “Bhorer Alo” is also published by the students of the Department. The Department also organizesBHASA DIBOSH to celebrate International Vernacular Language Day every Year on 21st The faculty members encourage the students to organize debates and present papers in class seminars. Celebrity Poets and Media Persons are invited to deliver lectures on matters related to literature.

On behalf of Bharatiya Bhasa Samiti, Government of India, a two-day National Seminar named “Dhrupadi Bhasa Bangla : Bibidha Vidyacharcha was arranged on 8 & 9 January, 2025 in the College auditorium, in collaboration with Sivanath Sastri College, to observe the recognition of the Bengali Language as one of the CLASSICAL LANGUAGE of India by the Government of India in October, 2024.The Faculty members and the students of the Department of Bengali actively participated in the whole session. Some eminent personalities of Bengali Language and Literature were invited to deliver their high grade overviews about the origin and development of Bengali Language and different aspects of Bengali Language and Literature.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT– The students of the Department showcase their excellence in the University Examinations. Many of the students pursue higher academic courses and prove their worth in the field of research. A number of them have been working as teacher in different academic institution. The Department is closely associated with promoting Bengal’s rich culture and literature.
