PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOME

PSO1-Acquire the knowledge of physical geography- Student will gain the knowledge of physical geography. Student will have a general understanding about the geomorphological and geotechnical processes and landforms. They will be able to correlate the knowledge of physical geography with life on earth

PSO2 – Role of humans on the planet – An understanding and acknowledgment of the threats that endanger the earth’s natural systems will develop. This goal is achieved through the regular field excursions conducted by the department to various parts of India and the writing of a report on it.

PSO4 – Knowledge of Statistics and Cartographic Techniques – The students of geography will learn various techniques of statistical data collection and analysis as well as cartographic techniques and map projections

PSO5 – Use of survey instruments- students will be able to do survey for traversing, profile drawing or for the determination of height of buildings with the help of survey equipments

PSO6 – Knowledge of Remote Sensing and GIS- understand satellites, false colour composite from LISS 3 and Landsat TM data. Students will also learn global navigation satellite system and GIS analysis using open source GIS software

PSO7 – Disaster preparedness, response and management – Students become equipped with the ability to respond to both natural and man-made disasters, acquire management skills and develop disaster preparedness. This is attained through the curriculum by studying and analyzing hazards and disasters for their better management.

PSO8 – Learn independent research skills – Ability to undertake independent research to address various research issues and areas of concern. This is possible because of the varied nature of the curriculum that encompasses the study and analyses of concepts of sub-disciplines and allied disciplines of geology, seismology, pedology, hydrology, environmental studies, disaster management, resource management and conservation, regional planning and development studies.

PSO9- Global Climate Change vulnerability and adaptation- students will be able to understand global climatic change and its impact on the environment. Students will also be aware of global initiatives for climate change mitigation as well as National action Plan

PSO10- Lifelong learning – The course will guide the students in the right direction, and urge them to constantly upgrade their skills, knowledge and acumen.
