The College since its foundation believed and practiced the spirit of democratic participation of all stakeholders in decision-making process and its functioning. The students are the most important stake holders in the college and hence they are involved in the key decision making and other exercises. The College has an elected body of students (Students’ Union) called the Chhatri Samsad which is elected annually through a democratic process of election in which all bona-fide students take part. This Chhatri Samsad is responsible to uphold the academic ambience of the college and to help the College Administration in matters pertaining to the smooth functioning of the College. The Union is expected to co-operate with the College Authority in maintaining discipline and at the same time represent the demands and grievances of the students to the College Authority. They are also responsible for organizing various study-circles, debates, cultural activities, recreational tours and other co-curricular activities. The Students Union provides a common platform where students belonging to different communities and with diverse background may mix freely and work in close co-operation with one another in an atmosphere of goodwill, harmony and self discipline.
The Chhatri Samsad is a non-political body which functions without any external intervention. An important aspect of the student participation in College management is the inclusion of one students’ representative in the College Governing Body thereby giving the students an opportunity to take part in the policy making process of the college and representing the views of the students. Representations of the students are also ensured in several committees such as the Admission Committee, Sports Committee, Canteen Committee, Magazine Committee, Cultural Committee, etc. The students’ representatives help the various committees to take important decisions as the main stakeholders. Such representation helps the students to play a more responsible collective role in organization management.
A student, guilty of breach of discipline or one who is unable to maintain a minimum academic standard, may be debarred from holding any office of the Union.
