PROGRAMME OUTCOME

PO1 – Role of Humans on the Planet – An understanding and acknowledgment of the threats that endanger the earth’s natural systems. This helps in further realization of the significance of anthropogenic causes of many of the disasters and threats that puts life on this planet on the edge. Enabling the students to understand that man and his ingenuity has given rise to resource and its utilization; which has sprung from man’s need for a better life. Hence the students of this course become conversant with and support the principle of sustainable development with practices of reuse and recycling.

PO2 – Disaster Response and Management – Students become equipped with the ability to respond to both natural and man-made disasters and acquire management skills. This is attained through the curriculum by studying and analyzing hazards, disasters, their impact and management.

PO3- increase analytical ability and critical thinking- Students are able to understand and comprehend theories and models. They are also able to make critical assessment while increasing their exposure to books and inculcating the habit of reading and analysis.

PROGRAMME OUTCOME

Geography is mainly concerned with changes in spatial attributes in a temporal perspective. The Honours programme in geography is tailored to meet specific educational and professional goals. It focuses on spatial studies, qualitative as well as quantitative, and emphasizes on human-environment relationship. During the first year of the programme, the students are trained on advanced concepts of physical geography and surveying and mapping techniques. In the second year of the programme students are exposed to the study of climate, hydrology, oceanography, regional planning and statistical methods. During third year or the last two semesters the students are concerned with GIS and remote sensing, research methodology, field work, geographical thought and disaster management. After completing the course, the students will be amply prepared for professional careers in geography and allied disciplines like GIS and Remote Sensing. They will also be able to pursue M.A. /M.Sc. Course in Geography. Students will also be trained in group activities, seminar presentations, creative writing and improved communication skills.
